It would explain the timey whimey whibbly wobbly things aspact. Granted, a witch might have dimensional powers/time/space but it's more likely a timelord alien could manipulate time. And the lights in the movie add to this. Now mind you if it aliens they would probably manipulate the minds of those they intend on feeding off of.
Heather being stuck in a time loop would tie into how we see her in Blair Witch 2016. I like to theorize that she never actually died and is basically stuck in the house under the witches control. The Witch had already gotten into her head prior to the group going into the woods. That's also true about the audio.
